Background information
Jireh Doo Foundation (JDF) is a National Non-government organization with over 19 years’ existence and actively intervening in the humanitarian response in the Northeast and other parts of the country since 2013. JDF works in the following thematic areas.
1. Improved response to the humanitarian needs of vulnerable people.
2. Improved gender equality and livelihood support for persons at the community level of young persons, men, and women.
3. Promotion of prevention and treatment in HIV and other health disease burden (Malaria, TB, and Diarrhea).
4. Promotion of protection programs for children and youth in Communities that encourages child development and Adolescent empowerment.
5. Promoting good governance and policies
6. Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability learning and sharing of information on protection, livelihood support accessible through knowledge and information management.

Jireh Doo Foundation is therefore seeking candidates with a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent and a minimum of two (2) years of experience working as a team lead or project coordinator. A communications officer for JDF, your job description involves the tasks of researching, writing, editing and publishing information about the organization. The information can be used for internal publications for employees, management, and volunteers or for publications that are distributed to
the general public.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. A communication officer is largely responsible for the way in which employees, customers, and the public view the organization.
2. Directs the overall flow of information for a organization including human resources, public relations, division offices and corporate headquarters.
3. Works with staff in virtually every department of the organization.
4. Manages special projects of varying type and size.
5. Communicates with members of print, radio and television media.
6. Manages social media communications.
7. Answers questions from employees and organization manages and from media outlets as well.
8. Prepares and manages the communications department budget.
9. Maintains a calendar of assigned projects and deadlines.
10.Delivers written and verbal communications by designated deadlines.
11. Manages the organization’s branding.
12.Educates staff members on communication processes.
13.Writes and distributes press releases to print, radio and television.
14.Creates and launches targeted marketing campaigns.
15.Conducts interviews with members of the media.
16.Drives message and announcement development and pitch strategies.

17.Maximizes opportunities for the organization to be featured in various types of media messages.
18.Develops internal organization newsletters for employees.
19.Optimizes organization website content for internet search engines.

Qualification and experience
Essential:
1. Must have exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
2.Must have excellent computer skills particularly with software applications like Word and PowerPoint.
3. Knowledge of Associated Press writing style guide.
4. Proficiency in design and publishing software.
5. Must have the ability to effectively prioritize projects and multi -task.
6. Must be an efficient time manager.
7. Must be able to function well in a team environment.
8. Must have strong public speaking skills.
9. Must be highly detail oriented.
10.Expert knowledge of the organization’s mission statement and product and service offerings.
11. Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
12. Must have good problem solving and decision-making skills.
13. Must have exceptional networking skills.
14. Must be able to establish firm and reliable contacts in various media outlets.
15. Education and Experience
16. Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications, Business, Marketing, English, Journalism, or a related discipline.

Preferable
• Female candidates are preferred.
• Familiarity with Monitoring & Evaluation of projects in the BAY states.
• Candidates from Yobe state with proven experience and understanding of the local languages and context.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
2. Advanced computer skills, including the ability to type quickly and to use Microsoft Office products, email, and the internet.
3. Ability to maintain confidentiality for sensitive issues or projects and use judgement to execute duties and responsibilities.
4. Sensitive to cultural differences and an understanding of the political and ethical issues
5. Fluency in English and Hausa (written & spoken).
6. Knowledge of health programs.
