Following the NCA/JDF collaborative framework and work implementation policy,
the team organized a community sensitization for the various group leaders in
MMC and KONDUGA on Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
TARGETED PEOPLE: COMMUNITY LEADERS, MEN LEADERS, RELIGIOUS LEADERS,
WOMEN LEADERS AND YOUTH LEADERS.
The team visited Bolori community to sensitize the community, men, women and youth leaders on the 12th of June 2018. Greetings were exchanged and the introduction was done. The Bulama welcomed the team. The GBV officer informed them about the GBV project which is in its second phase. She further explained to them what gender-based violence is, who it affects, how it affects the victims, the different types of gender-based violence, and what could be done to reduce incidences of GBV. She told them that there is a safe space acquired by the organization and it is a place where the victims of GBV (survivors) could come to be rehabilitated and any information about them will be confidential, they will also engage in skill acquisition. The safe space is also open to other women from the community who would want to acquire skills.
The GBV officer said the need for this sensitization is because as leaders of the various groups in the community they have an important role to play in ensuring the project goes on well and the rate of GBV is reduced. She also added that the leaders of the community should inform the women that activities will soon commence at the safe space and women should be encouraged to assess the safe space. She ended by asking the leaders for their full support during the project.
The GBV officer gave room for questions.
